DC Bird Alliance (DCBA) is seeking to add to our leadership on the Board of Directors! Directors serve in a volunteer capacity for a two-year term, renewable three times for up to six years.
Our chapter is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization with over 1,300 members. We are dedicated to building people-powered, bird-friendly communities in all eight wards of Washington, DC.
The ideal candidate:
Is passionate about DCBAs mission;
Has experience in non-profit finance, governance, volunteer coordination, and/or event planning;
Has the capacity to commit 10-12 hours of monthly active contributions to committees, programs, and board meetings;
Possesses a strong sense of cooperation and initiative
By joining the DCBA Board of Directors, you will have the opportunity to connect with fellow environmental leaders passionate about birds, conservation, and building an enthusiastic community around birds.
Board members are expected to attend all monthly board meetings and be active in at least one committee of the Board or project-based work. Additional information below!

Monthly Breakdown of Board Member Work (10-12 hours)
● Board Meeting Attendance (2-3 hours)
○ Prepare for and attend monthly board meeting
○ Review/prepare agenda items and materials beforehand
● Committee Work (3-4 hours)
○ Participate in assigned committee meetings
○ Work on committee-specific projects or tasks
● Event Participation (2 hours)
○ Attend at least one DCBA event per month
○ Engage with members and represent the organization
● Fundraising and Outreach (1-2 hours)
○ Assist with donor relations or fundraising activities
○ Promote DCBA through personal and professional
networks
● Administrative Tasks (1 hour)
○ Respond to board-related emails
○ Review and provide feedback on organizational
documents
● Professional Development (1 hour)
○ Stay informed about bird conservation and nonprofit
governance
○ Participate in relevant webinars or training sessions
