Board of Directors, 2021–2022

Andrés Anchondo (He/him)

Andrés started birding in 2014 after he became friends with a Peace Corps volunteer in Mexico who is also an avid birder. Originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, Andrés moved to the United States in 2016. He joined the Board in 2017, becoming the first international board member of DC Audubon Society. He works with American Bird Conservancy to conserve migratory birds and their habitats in Latin America. Andrés serves as Chair of the Diversity and Outreach Committee. His favorite D.C. bird is the Mourning Dove, as its call reminds him of the Chihuahuan Desert.

Tykee James (He/him)

Starting in his hometown of Philadelphia, PA, Tykee James was introduced to birding as a job and a responsibility to build trust, power, and coalition in his own neighborhood. He has been a part of the birding community for a decade and earned recognition as an organizer of the first Black Birders Week in 2020. In his personal time he loves to cook and dance.

Adam Kron (He/him)

Adam grew up in foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia, but his first introduction to birding was through his grandparents, who were avid birders in Wisconsin. Adam has lived in D.C. for the past ten years. When not on a DC Audubon bird walk, he spends his time as an environmental attorney with the nonprofit organization Environmental Integrity Project and exploring the District and its natural spaces with his future-birder daughter. Adam joined the board in 2019 and serves as Secretary and Chair of the Conservation and Advocacy Committee. His favorite D.C. bird is the American Kestrel.

Chris Murray (He/him)

Chris is a lecturer in political science and coordinates the internship and academic programs at the Marquette University Les Aspin Center for Government. He teaches courses in the area of American politics. A native of Wisconsin, Chris has lived in Washington, D.C., for the past 20 years and was introduced to birding largely through DC Audubon’s monthly bird walks. Chris serves as the Chair of the Governance Committee. When he is not birding, he enjoys scouring the area’s record stores for treasures and trying to prevent the further decline of his once relatively decent tennis game. His favorite bird is the Red-headed Woodpecker.
