DC Audubon Society a chapter of the National Audubon Society, is seeking to fill two vacancies on the Board of Directors for a term beginning November 2020. Directors serve in a volunteer capacity for a two-year term, renewable up to six years.

DC Audubon Society is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization with over 1,300 members whose mission is to promote the appreciation and conservation of birds and their habitats through the participation of those in the DC area. Our chapter is made up of five different Committees that focus on a wide range of tasks (Governance; Finance; Conservation and Advocacy; Education; and Diversity and Outreach).

For the November 2020 – October 2022 term, we are especially seeking candidates with strong nonprofit governance experience, for example, board operations, corporate compliance, fundraising, and strategic planning. A priority of DC Audubon Society is to reach out to and engage with the diverse population of the District of Columbia. As such, we are looking for candidates with experience in developing and implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Lastly, candidates with experience managing G Suite would be strongly considered. DC Audubon Society is committed to developing a Board of Directors that is representative of the diverse population of the District of Columbia, however, residence in the District of Columbia is not required to serve on the Board of Directors.

By joining DC Audubon Society’s Board of Directors you will have the opportunity to meet people who are passionate about birds, help conserve bird habitat, teach fellow Washingtonians of all wards about birds, and be part of fun events with our members. Board members are expected to attend monthly meetings and be active in committee work.
